First UCI World Series podium for KMC Nukeproof MTB Racing Team in Lenzerheide

  • Nieuws
Last weekend, the world’s top mountain bikers headed to Lenzerheide, Switzerland, for the fourth round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series. It turned into a historic weekend for the KMC Nukeproof MTB Racing Team, as Rens Teunissen Van Manen secured the team’s first-ever podium in the series with an impressive third place in the U23 XCO race.

Located in Graubünden, Lenzerheide is well known as a winter sports destination, but mountain bikers also find plenty to enjoy here. The venue has previously hosted a World Championship and now welcomed the World Series. Teunissen Van Manen had already finished second here last year and arrived full of ambition. A podium had narrowly eluded him this season, despite a strong fifth place in Nové Město (XCO & XCC). He just missed the podium in the short track, but delivered in the Olympic-distance race, finishing less than a minute behind winner Paul Schehl, with Thibaut Francois Baudry also ahead of him.
Lia Schrievers and Kelsey Urban are still recovering from crashes. The rest of the team competed this weekend. Carla Hahn returned to racing and finished 21st in the Short Track and 26th in the XCO. Julian Schelb performed even better, finishing 13th and 17th in the Olympic race. Tyler Orschel placed 33rd and 45th. Tom Schellekens (39th in XCO) and Oleksandr Hudyma (77th after bad luck) completed the results further down the order.

With this fantastic podium finish, the team heads home satisfied.
